Am I getting enough fat?
So happy to see you again. Wishing you more happy health!
I know – you are constantly catching yourself wondering if you are getting enough fat in your diet, right? No? Okay, for most of the people in this world that isn’t a thought that comes to mind often, but if you are on a serious calorie reduced or restricted diet you may not be getting enough of this key nutrient.
Need convincing about why you may need to add fat? Adding healthy fat to your diet helps your body absorb key nutrients such as vitamin E, D, A and K. Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant that assists in the repair of your muscles after a workout. If enough fat isn’t present in your diet, then you may be impairing your ability to recover properly. Fats also add flavor to your foods and help you feel full longer.
When adding fat, go for the monounsaturated fats naturally found in such as foods as nuts, avocados, olive oil, and aged cheeses. The aged cheeses add more flavor while using less – thereby keeping the calories down. You should aim to have approximately 30% of your daily calorie requirements come from fat. Remember not all fat is created equal!
