Wow – I lost 6.6 pounds in two days! My bathroom scale also measure water and fat percentages and both were around the normal range for me this morning, so I know I’m not dehydrated. I was afraid that a fast would make me loose too much water weight and I would be dehydrated. I drank my normal amount of water and a little more hot herbal tea than I normally do. I also cheated a little the first day with some saltine crackers and cheese and then just saltine crackers the second day. I thought the crackers would swell up in my stomach and help me feel less hungry. That seemed to work for me. I am so excited about how flat my stomach is! I would say the benefit of the fast was a true cleansing of my digestive system and elimination of any waste that needed flushing out.

The fast wasn’t easy though. Not because I was really hungry, it was more the cravings that were getting to me. My daughter and I, who did the fast together, watched a television show last night and every commercial was for a fast food restaurant. I can see how we, the consumers, are so easily influenced into eating the fatty high-calorie foods at restaurants. And think about this – your subconscious picks up everything you see and while you are sleeping it gets busy working on ways to make your desires a reality. So, if you are watching television before bed that is loaded with fast food commercials and you start craving something you saw, your subconscious is likely to get to work developing a plan to get you what you crave. The nest day you may have the best intentions on sticking to your diet or eating healthfully and then all of a sudden, like a bug attracted to a light, there you are sitting in the drive-thru at Mickey D’s – and you are not there for the apple wedges. If you watch television, you may not be able to avoid commercials entirely, but just be aware of how your subconscious works and each time you see something you know is not healthy, try to reverse the programming by reminding yourself how bad that processed, high fat, greasy, nutrient poor food-like substance is for you. Paint a negative picture in your mind of the unhealthy foods and replace the thought with an ideal image of yourself eating an apple or other healthy food. Visualize what you want and not what you don’t want.

Back to the fast – I recommend it and I recommend you do it with a support buddy. I’m proud of myself for getting through my first fast successfully and I’m happy with the results. Now, after I finish my yummy Chocolate Shakeology I am off to start the last week of ChaLEAN Extreme and taking the dog for a run. Have a lovely day!
