Day 2 – P90X Plyometrics

So happy to see you again. Wishing you more happy health!

P90X Plyometrics – what in the world is that?  It is a dynamic cardio workout with over 30 explosive jumping moves… and it is a butt-kicker!  I got through it and did pretty well, only modifying a few of the exercises.  I admit, I did spend quite a bit of time between exercises bent over with my hands on my knees as I was sucking wind.  Some of the moves are fun, like “Close the Gap” where you jump forward as if you are jumping across a river.  I also liked “Monster Truck Tires,” which is a little like the traditional boot camp type drill where you run through tires, but this one is at a more moderate pace and more dynamic.  I started struggling at the half-way through the workout and after modifying the moves for one round, I got my second wind and finished strong.  I am so glad I did Turbo Jam followed by ChaLEAN Extreme before starting P90X.  ChaLEAN Extreme includes two Plyometric type workouts along with resistance training and I feel the benefits of having completed that 90 program before starting P90X.

I should also mention that I am using the GoWearFit Bodybugg lifestyle and calorie monitoring system.  Bodybugg consists of a sensor on an adjustable band that I wear on my arm and an optional display unit that allows me to track my calorie expenditure and the number of steps I take during the day.  It also helps me monitor my sleep efficiency.  I started wearing the system about a week ago.  I wanted to have several days of data before starting P90X.   My calorie goal per day is set at 2,320 and as of the time I’m writing this, at about 8:00am, I have already burned 907 calories.  This information is vital for a program like P90X as it not designed to be a reduced calorie weight loss program.  To get the max benefits of P90X, it is recommended to follow the P90X Nutritional Plan.  The good news is the plan offers several diet options to fit any lifestyle.  Bodybugg doesn’t have any way of telling how many calories I consume, so I still use SparkPeople to track my calories and nutritional breakdown.  The data from SparkPeople combined with Bodybugg give me a holistic view of my lifestyle and nutritional needs.

I am so grateful for the P90X Results & Recovery Formula after-workout drink!  It tastes like a orange creamcicle push-up pop and helps me feel more refreshed and eases muscle soreness during my recovery. I’m going to finish my Chocolate Shakeology mixed with a tablespoon of reduced fat peanut butter and lite vanilla soy milk and jump in the shower.
